Munchies

They're here!

Today we discovered some welcomed visitors in our yard.

In the spring we planted milkweed hoping to attract Monarch butterflies.

We waited and we waited. And then we waited some more. We decided they weren't coming this year.

I guess we were wrong!

This guy isn't even on the milkweed.

He may be getting ready to make his chrysalis.  See the silky material on the right?

I'll let you know what happens!

Fantastic, Michele! I've been watching for them in our yard - even planted butterfly-friendly perennials! I guess I will have to wait a while for them to fly to this side of the country!
Cheers!

Wonderful! I would love a good book which shows the caterpillar and moth/butterfly as i'm not quite sure which ones go with which. I have seen the cinnabar moth caterpillars near the beach on a ragwort looking dandylion but can't recognise any others.
