Dimestore is done!

It's time again for the Another Year of Schnibbles parade!  Here is my version of Dimestore with Mama Said Sew fabric.  Unfortunately, it's way too wet for outside pictures, so inside shots will have to do.

It's been a while since I worked with so few colors and I really had a good time with it.....just reds, greys, blacks, and creams.

 I love all the text fabrics in this line!

Lots of matching seams went together easily on this one. I like it so much I just may have to make another.......

The parade should begin soon, just in time for Labor Day weekend!  Run over to visit Sinta and Sherri to get a good seat!  I'm waiting on the edge of mine to see all of the other amazing Dimestore quilts.

I wonder what they have in store for next month?

Looking at Hawaii

School is back in session here and our summer is pretty well wrapped up.

  Next weekend a Labor Day soccer tournament will keep us busy and our thoughts will be turning to pumpkins and cooler weather.......At least we can think about cooler weather, even if it will be awhile before we get any!

To finish up the hot month of August, I'm going to some share pictures from from the Hawaii trip that we took this summer. Summer went by so fast!  It  seems like we were in Hawaii yesterday!

A fabulous pool and rope bridge at the Hilton Waikoloa Village Resort. We stayed here when we were on the Big Island of Hawaii.

 This bird apparently did not want his face to be spread all over the internet.

 This is the first Saffron Finch we had ever seen. 

It was interesting to see so many different kinds of flowers and birds.

This ginormous flower was just amazing! 

This Banyan tree was huge! We spent a day traveling around the Big Island in search of beautiful Hawaiian waterfalls.

We found these amazing falls while exploring off the trail near the boiling pots.

The luau we attended was a big hit with the boys. Throwing spears, eating lots of food, and dances involving flaming sticks added up to some happy campers.  This native Hawaiian game that we played before the luau was a favorite with warrior boy.

Snorkeling and enjoying the scenery from the Hula Kai was a highlight of our trip.

The Kona Coast is sometimes called the Gold Coast because there are so many Yellow Tangs in the water.

 This Teenage fish looks familiar.

Two kinds of sea urchins.

 This is a humuhumunukunukuapua'a. Say that three times really fast!  It's the state fish of Hawaii.  It's not always easy to find so we were thrilled to get a picture of it! 

Maybe JoAnne can remind me of the identity of this fish.  My DH took this picture when we were snorkeling with JoAnne and her husband in Hunauma Bay.

My Friday Night

The first week of school was done, the pizza order was placed and I was ready to go!

During the Friday Night Sew-In yesterday I did some cutting, some cutting, and some more cutting!

 Just a little more background fabric left to cut.

This Mamma Said Sew fabric from Sweetwater is really cute.  I can't wait to get sewing!

Little bits of fun

I'm planning to use this Mama Said Sew fabric during the Friday Night Sew-In this week.

It's been a crazy couple of weeks here and I could certainly use the time on Friday night for a sewing break!

A pizza, some treats, a movie from my mailbox, and some fun sewing will certainly be on the agenda for me!

Wow, that's small!!

Recently I saw an amazing project made with a mini charm pack, but I can't remember what it was!  Ugh! How frustrating!

  

I remember thinking that I'd like to make it, but now I don't remember what or where it was!  What are you making with these little cuties?  Maybe I was thinking about what you made, or maybe it will jog my memory.

Coaster cake!

Speaking of treats, recently my boy who loves roller coasters had a birthday! 

We have a tradition in my house of making special secret birthday cakes.  This one just had to be a roller coaster cake, we thought.

After some internet searching and some creative thinking this was the result! Licorice for the track, candy bar pieces for the ground, black frosting for the supports with some sprinkles thrown in for good measure.

We had a fun time making the cake and he had a great day!

Do you label?

I don't feel like a quilt is finished until I put a label on it.  

My great-grandmother was a quilter, and how I wish she would have labeled her quilts.   At least I would have a little more information about the quilt.....when she made it, who it was for, anything like that.  

I do realize that back then quilts were more utilitarian, and the thought of making a label probably never crossed her mind.  I just want more information to be stuck to my quilts, unable to be separated from them.

Many times I forget when I made the quilts myself, so I've found labels to be helpful!   

This label is from a panel.  I love how well it goes with the backing!

I usually prefer to get panels of labels, and choose one that fits the quilt as best as I can.  These panels are getting more and more difficult to find.  I wonder why.  Are quilters not using them?

I couldn't find a label that I thought was appropriate for my Leap Year quilt, so I used a left over charm square. I'm happy with how it turned out.

Right now, I'm on the lookout for thicker fabric pens, or any fabric pens for that matter.

  I've heard of using stamps on quilt labels, but I've never found any ink that I thought would definitely stay on the fabric when it was washed.

Pat wrote an interesting post last year about making labels using her computer.  I tried this years ago, but the fabric sheets I was using were just too stiff for my taste. I'll have to try some of the products that Pat suggests.   

How are you labeling your quilts? 

  

If you use labels from a panel, where are you finding them?  I'd love to know. Is there a particular type of pen you use, or have you found the elusive fabric stamp that I've been trying to locate for years at my local craft shops.
