They're Here!

Here's a picture of the new additions to the Carolina Wren family living on our lanai. Three hatched last Thursday, and I'm not sure when the other two hatched.  Do you count five birds too? We weren't really sure, but five is what we see in the picture.  The nest is wedged in between an inner pot and an outer decorative pot for my Christmas cactus, so it's hard to see.  I waited a few days to take a picture, so I wouldn't disturb them when they were really small.

The adult birds go back and forth with food from early in the morning, until late at night.  I put some sunflower seeds near the nest, but no one is eating them.  But beetles and worms in our area should look out!  That seems to be their food of choice.

Copper is outside sometimes, but the Wrens don't mind.  They just go right past him.  When he lays right under the nest they do seem to yell at him, which he is oblivious too. I just let him in so he stays out of the way.  Those little ones get noisier every day!  At first you couldn't hear them inside our house, but now there is no doubt when Mom or Dad have arrived with some food!  I'll be sure to keep you updated on the new family!

I love your new little house guests! It's so nice that they have given you an opportunity for a birds eye view... sorry/couldn't help it.

Oh, how cute - so special to have them nest so close and in such an odd place. This is going to be fun to watch them grow.

I love the little birds! If they are bug eaters, you can buy bags of freeze dried mealworms for them. I've bought them here and they are a little yucky looking, but birds love them!

Oh how sweet! I wondered if there mght be 6 but it could be a wing near the top on the left. You can get stuff like meal worms from aquarium shops if you want to supplement their diets.

How sweet! Hope will be excited to see this in the morning. Did you know they will come back every year looking for somewhere to build their nest? Let's hope they build in a favorable photo spot next year too.
