It was kind of a mad dash at the end, but I was able to put the finishing touches on my alphabet quilt this week.
Just in time too!
The baby arrived a little early, and school began this week, so I was putting the pedal to the metal to get it finished!
If you remember from my last post, the baby's parents are both English teachers, so an ABC quilt was very appropriate.
And I was successful in getting the blocks in the right order, although I did have my helpers make absolutely sure.
It was kind of a relief not to have to figure out where I was going to put each block just before I sewed the quilt top together.
The block placement was definitely set by that time! There was no changing my mind, unless I wanted to remake blocks.
And I didn't want to do that.
And I didn't want to do that.
These were half the size as the original Moda Spell It With Fabric pattern.
I'm pleased with the results!
I'm pleased with the results!
And I have some pictures of our monarch caterpillar friends that have found their way to our milkweed.
Every year we watch them get bigger and then change into butterflies, and this year is no exception.
This year we have had a more difficult time tracking them down right before they make their chrysalis.
I guess these guys are good at staying hidden!
Thanks for sticking with me during my slow blogging summer.
I'm going to get the pictures of the ABC quilt with it quilted and bound off the camera soon, then I'll be back to share them.
I hope so! I miss staying in touch.
I love that you used white letters and colorful backgrounds. It's really adorable!
ReplyDeleteI love the ABC quilt! I think I need to plant some milkweed so we can have more butterflies here. :0)
ReplyDeleteWonderful baby quilt!
ReplyDeleteSo cute. Did you figure out the resizing of the blocks yourself? I have the spell it with Moda pattern.
ReplyDeleteIt's adorable. I really hope to be able to use those fun letter patterns one day soon! :-)
ReplyDeleteVery cute! So colorful. The baby will have so much fun playing with letters and colors.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect baby quilt for teachers! I love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful baby quilt! Love the caterpillars! Thank you for sharing them with us
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is really cool! I am a former English teacher and you know I would have loved something like this when my kids were little. Are you giving it to them tomorrow? They are going to love it! The bright background fabric makes it so cheerful!
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a monarch caterpillar. We have lots of milkweed growing in our butterfly garden. Ours is white (Ice Dancer I think it's called) and pink, not sure of that one's name. Ours went to seed last week and we saved a bunch of the seeds to try and plant more next year. Has yours gone to seed yet?
Beautiful quilt top, love your color choices. Glad someone has monarch caterpillars...we have lots of milk weed, but no butterflies.
ReplyDeleteHi Michele, I don't know why but since I joined Bloglovin, I can't comment on your blog unless I go directly to your blog and bypass Bloglovin - oh, well. I just read a newspaper article today about the Monarch becoming extinct and that we should plant milkweed in our gardens. Too late this year for me, but next year I will definitely do that. Love the ABC quilt!
ReplyDeleteAdorable!! Great baby quilt. I finally got mine done - full sized - and blog about it today. :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. Love the fabrics you used. I really need to get back to my alphabet quilt but other things are taking priority.
