At the end of my last post I left you wondering which Schnibble I would be making for the July parade.
So many choices! Finally, I decided on Bennington from Carrie's book Schnibbles Times Two.
I made this mini-Schnibble....yes, I made it even smaller......for a swap that Kris had a few months ago. I loved making that quilt, and I loved the finished quilt too! When I packed it up and sent it to my swap partner Michelle, I decided that I wanted to make one for myself when I had an opportunity.
And because I couldn't decide which picture to use, here's another. |
Are you wondering what the beach ball hint in the last post has to do with anything? Well, I'm using Lucy's Crab Shack fabric for my Bennington this time around. So that means I'm using beachy fabric on a traditional snowball quilt pattern. I was having a little trouble with that. I'm sure no one else would, but it was bothering me. Snowballs with beach fabric? It just doesn't seem right. Then it hit me! My version made with the beachy Lucy's Crab Shack fabric will be called a beach ball quilt, not a snowball quilt! We have been making good use of our beach ball in the pool this summer, so it seemed like the perfect fit! A fun summer quilt!
Bennington was a great spot for me to quilt these flowers. I did some outline quilting on this one too. |
Yes, another picture. By the way, this was made with Urban Cowgirl fabric. |
Now, I just need to get going on a few more blocks to finish up my beach ball version!
Since I'm talking about swaps, and also projects I haven't blogged about yet, I'll mention this one. It also falls into both categories! Isn't this cupcake oven mitt adorable? The pattern is called Hot Cakes by Susie C. Shore Designs.
With this fabric it looks like a birthday cupcake to me! |
I made this and sent to my friend LeAnn as a part of our bag swap earlier this year. It was a fun and easy project to make. They would certainly brighten up a kitchen in any fabric. I'd love to make a few more of these too! They would make perfect birthday treats!
We were at the beach early, early this morning as two of my guys participated in a beach run. I didn't run, but I took advantage of the cool morning by relaxing on the beach and finding some amazing shells. I hope you have the chance to to some fun things this weekend and to enjoy some sewing time too!
I love that Bennington Schnibble! Those flowers in the quilting are brilliant. I LOVE your idea about a beachball quilt, though, and can't wait to see it! I have had my eyes on that fabric, but couldn't order any until I had an address, but I can now!! The cupcake mit is cute, too! I cannot wait until I can start sewing again!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the Schnibble!!!! What great fabrics too.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that a wonderful hot mitt? Very cute.
Bennington is beautiful! Lucky Michelle!
ReplyDeleteYour version of Bennington is gorgeous!!!! Beautiful quilting!
ReplyDeleteLOVE that cupcake!
ReplyDeleteYour Schnibble quilt is beautiful! I love the idea of beach balls!!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I have seen it as dog bones and I think bows. I can now think of it as beach balls too. :-)
ReplyDeletePretty cupcake!
I was picking up half a beach this time last week. This weekend I was in Haworth breathing in gorgeous coal tar soap smells.
Love! Can't wait to see your Lucy version.
ReplyDeleteI love everything about your Bennington quilt! And I love the idea of a beach ball quilt. Lucy's is the perfect fabric for it.
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt. Cute flower quilting! Fun cupcake.
ReplyDeleteOh, Michele, I LOVE that quilting you did! And talking about beach balls really brings back memories -I haven't seen one of those in a while. I guess I need to get my butt back to a beach! And thanks for the name for my quilt - you dubbed it perfectly - Flower Power! That's what I'm going to call it. If it wasn't a gift I would have thrown the towel in soon after beginning it. It was paper-piecing, which I was only vaguely familiar with when I started (that will teach me to really scrutinize a pattern BEFORE I jump in). And the quilt gave me lots of headaches every step of the way. But I love it, and I'm thinking of entering it in a quilt show. Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting!
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable Schnibble! I love how you quilted it, that really makes it pop.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt! And I love the flowers quilted into it too! :0)
ReplyDeleteLove that quilt and the quilting on it. So pretty.
ReplyDeleteI have a mitt done up too. I got one in a hot pad swap. Your fabrics choices are great.
