This Sweet Spot Schnibble, designed by Carrie Nelson, is my entry in The Blogger's Quilt Festival! I just finished putting the binding on today, the last day to enter a quilt in the festival at Amy's Creative Side.
I've had the quilt mostly done for awhile. I was just leaving the binding as a hand work project to do now and then, but I decided this was the quilt I wanted to enter in the festival, and I managed to finish just in time!
There are lots of pictures in this post, because I had so much fun with this quilt, including the quilting, so please bear with me! I even cut the binding on the bias to get that barber pole look that I love.
I did the quilting on my quilt frame and I was pleased with how it turned out. This quilt is special to me because it represents a big jump in my quilting skills on the frame. It's been a slow transition for me from moving the quilt around under the machine, which I was very comfortable with, to moving the machine around on the quilt!
Marking some reference points, but not the whole quilt, really worked out well for me on this one and I plan to do more partial marking in the future.
I know, I know, I'm finally showing you a picture of the entire quilt! I think the black, mixed in with the bright colors, is what makes this quilt pop! Fresh Flowers and Punctuation were the charm packs I use in this small quilt. Mixing a couple of different charm packs when I can is my favorite way to go.
The backing of this quilt really called to me! I just love the large print and how the quilt could even be reversible. Usually I am a big fan of labels on all of my quilts, but since this one could just as easily be used on the other side, I haven't really decided what to do about a label. Any ideas?
Well, thanks so much for visiting and come back soon! I hope you can take some time to see so many other wonderful quilts at the Blogger's Quilt Festival over at Amy's Creative Side!
Beautiful quilt. You posted just on time for us to enjoy! Thanks and congrats on an amazing quilt and quilting!
ReplyDeleteIt certainly has a Wow impact! I love the backing fabric too... I think you could just embroider your name and date on either side of the quilt! Really beautiful Michele!
ReplyDeletesuch a cheerful quilt! I love the diagonal strip bindings, too, but haven't tried making one yet. That backing fabric is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness -both sides of this are wonderful! I'd have a hard time choosing one over the other. Do you know who's fabric is on the back? I think I'l like some in my stash.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty - love the quilting!
ReplyDeleteI agree. The quilting is awesome! I have a quilt that I love, too, because it was a significant "jump" in my quilting. The backing is perfect, too. I love it. You probably know already that I love stripes for binding, you can do so much with them! For a label, I would probably just write with a permanent pen in some white space along the edge of the binding.
ReplyDeleteThe binding alone won me over - love bindings that make a statement, not just an ending. And mixing charms is so fun - I do it all the time. As some one already suggested - embroider you name and date on the back.
ReplyDeleteOh Michele - the quilt is beautiful! I really like the fabric you used for the backing too...
ReplyDeleteLove love love this quilt! Gorgeous binding and backing as well!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt front and back.
ReplyDeleteSuper!! I love all of it. Love the backing fabric. It is awesome!
ReplyDeleteWhy is it every time you finish a new quilt I have a new favorite? Love the pattern, love the fabric you chose, LOVE the backing - it's perfect, and love the stripe binding. And lets not forget your quilting - wow, love it too. Did you quilt curls off a spine? Like a feather? I've got a long weekend coming up so I plan on working with the quilt frame monster, hope mine turns out half as nice as yours.
ReplyDeleteAwesome vibrant quilt! The barber pole binding really sets the quilt into something amazing.
ReplyDeleteA very cheery little quilt. Love the backing fabric. Maybe you could write in your label info in a free form way since the fabric has a bit of a sketchy style. What about following the lines around some of the shapes like under the butterfly wings or along a stem? This way it would blend right in to the fabric.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!!!! Love the backing fabric!! Goes perfect...oh and the quilting!! LOVE LOVE!!!! Gorgeous design. You did an amazing job on it!!

What a lovely quilt! The backing is so perfect for it. I can see why it would be a double sided quilt.
